County Photographer Photograph Collection

County Executive Andrew P. O'Rourke and New York Governor Mario Cuomo at the Opening of WestHELP, 1989 (PCP-239).

Dates: ca. 1982-1996
Quantity: approx. 2,500 items
Arrangement: Alphabetical by Topic
Indexed: In an Archives in-house database available in the Reading Room.
Format: Mostly 8x10 or 5x7 black and white prints.

These photographs were largely produced by County Photographer Anthony Vitulli, although some were produced by private contractors. The images are mostly black and white prints (8x10 or 5x7) with some color prints.

The photographs focus on the activities of County Executive Andrew P. O'Rourke (1983-1996) with a few from the term of his predecessor, Alfred DelBello (1974-1982).

Although the bulk of the images record ceremonial functions, they include photographs of county commissioners and department heads, county employee activities, county-owned buildings, members of the Board of Legislators, and events, such as the Westchester County Tricentennial (1983).

Records by Chronological Order

This chronological index of the series descriptions allows researchers to browse records by time periods.

The series were indexed chronologically according to the first date recorded in the records.  If several series have the same first date, they are then ordered according to the end date of each record series.

Note that some series will overlap time periods because the dates covered span a large amount of time.

As seen on the menu to the left, the index has been arranged by either century (1600s and 1700s), half century (1800s), or quarter century (1900s) based upon the amount of records for each time period.

  • For example, the majority of our records fall within the 1900-1999 time period, which is why this century has been broken up into quarter century pages.

Here are some popular collections that cover large time spans (click on the years to access the full series description):
