From the earliest days of the county in the late-17th century, the County Clerk has been responsible for documenting some of the most significant transactions to take place within its borders, such as monitoring land transactions through the recording of deeds and mortgages and an extensive map collection; maintaining all legal documents for Westchester County, including professional registers and regulatory filings required by state law; court records dating back to the late-18th century; and serving as agent for the Federal government in the handling of naturalization records.
